NOTES

  1. Cronk Urleigh

Elizabeth was her younger daughter b1837; another daughter, Margaret Jane Barrie born 1835 remained with her grandmother, Margaret Brew, after her mother's marriage to John Mylrea Margaret Jane (Maggie) married John James Cleator in 1857 in Douglas but both died without issue or wills in 1872 in Andreas. Elizabeth became her sister's heiress-at-law
  3. Elizabeth married Edward Taubman Corlett in 1863 and by the time of this Contract had been a widow for about twenty years
  4. The James Street dwelling was resumed by the Douglas Town Commissioners in order to renovate the street
  5. Her half sister Mary Ann sold her share of the dwelling for £84/3/6 several months after Elizabeth. Comparing the two sales - Elizabeth 6/24 share of the whole for £69/15/- and Mary Ann 7/24 share of the whole for £84/3/6
  6. John her half brother received £37/17/- from the Town Commissioners, which curiously is half what Elizabeth received. It is also curious that Mary Ann received a significantly larger share than her sibling John, and slightly larger share than her half-sister
