Estate of ANN JANE MYLREA als CUBBON
Assignment - 1899 (Douglas)
Whereas Ann Jane Richards then of London Grove, Princes Road, Liverpool did on the 5th day of April 1893 grant and pass her Deed of Bond and Security unto Ann Jane Mylrea late of Mount Havelock in the town of Douglas since deceased for the principal sum of fifty pounds payable with interest, costs and charges and secured upon all and singular the right, title and interest of the said Ann Jane Richards in and to that dwelling house, cow house or stable, yard and premises numbered 80 in Strand Street in the said town of Douglas also in and to the dwelling house and premises number 21 Derby Road in the said town of Douglas and more fully described in the said Deed and whereas Margaret Christian Richards then of Derby Road in the said town of Douglas, spinster, and now the wife of Charles Cubbon Kaneen of Victoria Street, chemist, did on the 21st day of February 1891 grant and pass her Deed of Bond and Security to the said Ann Jane Mylrea for the principal sum of fifty pounds payable with interest, costs and charges and secured upon all and singular the right, title and interest of the said Margaret Christian Kaneen nee Richards in and to the dwelling house, cow house or stable, yard and premises number 80 in Strand Street and also the dwelling house and premises number 21 Derby Road in the said town of Douglas and whereas the said ANN JANE MYLREA subsequently departed this life and by her last will and testament dated 26th February 1896 appointed William Callow of Lonan, farmer, executor who was sworn at a Court held in Douglas the 15th June 1896 and whereas there is now due and owing upon the two Deeds of Bond and Security the sum of one hundred pounds being the principal monies thereof which sum Ann Owen of the Crescent in the said town of Douglas, widow, has agreed to advance upon receiving an assignment of the said two Deeds of Bond and Security which the said William Callow as such executor for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given, granted and assigned and by these presents doth grant, transfer and assign unto the said Ann Owen all and singular the two Deeds of Bond and Security granted and passed by the said Ann Jane Richards and Margaret Christian Richards now Kanneen to the said Ann Jane Mylrea dated the 5th day of April 1893 and the 21st day of February 1891 respectively together with the money thereby secured and property therein and thereby given in security to have and to hold the said two Deeds of Bond and Security and all moneys due and owing and to accrue in respect thereof together with the property therein and thereby given in security unto the said Ann Owen, her executors, administrators and assigns in as full and ample a manner to all intents and purposes as he the said William Callow might or could have held the same if these presents had not been executed provided always and it is hereby expressly agreed upon that this assignment is granted by the said William Callow and received by the said Ann Owen upon the express condition that he the said William Callow nor the estate of the said Ann Jane Mylrea are not under any circumstances whatsoever to be made liable or responsible to the said Ann Owen or her executors, administrators or assigns for any deficiency in the value or defect in the title of the property given in security by the said two Deeds of Bond and Security but that the said William Callow and the estate of the said Ann Jane Mylrea are discharged and exonerated from all liability or responsibility in the premises in as full and ample a manner to all intents and purposes as if the said two Deeds of Bond and Security had been cancelled upon record instead of being assigned. At Douglas this 9th day of October 1899 Robert Henry Cubbin of the town of Douglas one of the subscribing witnesses to the execution of the foregoing Deed and who is known to me personally appeared and made oath on the Holy Evangelist that William Callow the executing party duly signed and executed the same in presence of deponent. NOTES
- Ballakilley
- Ann Jane was the widow of Thomas Mylrea jnr of Ballakilley estate in Lona The couple married in 1875 and Thomas jnr died in 1879. There were no children
- She was only 31 when she was widowed, and 48 years old when she died
- She described herself as a domestic servant in the 1881 & 1891 census collections, living in Mt Havelock (Douglas)
- However, Ann Jane might also have been a successful businesswoman for she left inter alia five Bonds of Deed & Security as part of her estate, the value of which totalled about £300. She also left two shops in North Quay
- The MI for Thomas jnr and his wife reads: In affectionate remembrance of Thomas Mylrea of Ballakilley, Lonan, who died February 11, 1879, aged 35 years. Also Anne Jane, wife of the above, who died May 16, 1896, aged 48 years
