Know all men by these presents that I Charles McYlrea and Margaret my wife of Fildraw Moare in the parish of KK Malew for diverse good causes and valuable considerations us thereunto moving but more especially for and in consideration of the full, just and entire sum of forty pounds of the currency of this Isle to be paid in manner following at and from the hands of our loving friend Thomas Bell of the said parish (viz) twenty-one pounds thereof to us already paid in hand the receipt whereof we do acknowledge before these presents and nine pounds to be paid at or before the confirmation hereof and the remainder ten pounds to be paid unto Thomas McYlrea to defray and discharge the mortgage or encumbrance upon the premises herein and hereafter mentioned at Michealmas next ensuing the date hereof which said sum makes the full and complete sum of forty pounds as abovementioned have given, granted, alienated, passed over and sold and do by these presents give, grant, alienate, pass over and forever absolutely sell from us our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns a certain parcel of our tenement of Fildraw aforesaid being the field in the northeast end of Cronk Fildraw adjoining unto the Straun Ballananck with said field Thomas McYlrea hath in mortgage the same being Abbey Land and to be of the annual rent and customs proportionable with the rest of the tenement of Fildraw as the Setting Quest shall settle or allot thereon to have, hold, possess, occupy and enjoy forever unto him the said Thomas Bell his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns the premises with its appurtenances in peaceable possession at Michaelmas in the year one thousand seven hundred and thirty and one together with all easements, liberties, profits, commodities and advantages with all ways, waters and watercourses to the premises in anywise respectively belonging or appertaining he the said Thomas Bell his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns yielding and paying yearly and every year the annual rents and customs, dues and duties, suits and services due and payable out of the premises at the usual times and seasons accustomed and I the said Charles McYlrea and Margaret my wife do bind and oblige ourselves our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns the premises with its appurtenances to uphold, maintain, awarrant and defend unto him the said Thomas Bell his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns against the pretended right, title, claim or demand of any manner of person or persons whatsoever the rights of the right Honourable Lord of this Isle only excepted and I the said Charles McYlrea and Margaret my wife doth further oblige ourselves our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to procure and obtain the worshipful Court’s confirmation hereunto and to cause the name of the said Thomas Bell to be entered in the Court roles as lawful tenant to our Honourable Lord and also do further oblige ourselves our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to do and perform all other act or acts, thing or things, necessary or requisite to be done for the better strengthening and securing of the premises unto him the said Thomas Bell his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns and for the true and faithful performance of all and singular the premises every clause and sentence herein contained I the said Charles McYlrea and Margaret my wife do bind and oblige ourselves our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns in the penalty or forfeiture of one hundred pounds sterling to be levied in the nature of all such fines according to the laws of this Isle In testimony whereof we have interchangeably set our hands and seals this seventeenth day of June 1728 Charles McYlrea, Margaret Mylrea her mark X and seal

14th November 1728 Charles McYlera and his wife came this day and have acknowledged the within and above Bill of Sale to be their voluntary act and deed before me Charles Moore
At the Abbey Court holden at Ballasalla the 29th May 1729 The within written Bill of Sale having been acknowledged before the Deemster and now published in open Court and no objection being made against it therefore the same is allowed of and confirmed according to law James Horton, J.Wood Charles Moore ,… Christian, William Stonier

- Charles McYrea was the older son of John Mcylrea & Elizabeth Shimmin, born 1687 in Malew and thus heir to the Fildraw estate
- His siblings were Elizabeth (married Thomas Norris) b1686, Thomas (married Jony Kinley) b1689, Ann (married Thomas Cain) b1694, Cath (unmarried) b1697, Isable (married Thomas Quackin, Robert Shimmin) b1701
- Charles's wife was Margaret Kewley?; children born in Malew - Charles jnr 1718, Elizabeth (1721-1725), John 1726, William (1728-1748)
- His father died the year before this sale
- This was one of several contracts in which, over the previous two decades, parts of Fildraw were sold/mortgaged, the first five involving Charles's father, John. One of the sales was to his brother, Thomas, mentioned in this contract
- There is much about the Malew Mylreas of the 1600s and early 1700s that does not hang together so extreme caution must be exercised
