DANIEL MYLROI from JOHN MYLROI
MORTGAGE - 1877 (Lonan)
Know all men by these presents that I Daniel Mylroi of Laxey in the parish of Lonan do hereby own and acknowledge myself to be endebted to John Mylroi of Laxey Glen in the parish of Lonan, joiner, in the full and just sum of ninety pounds sterling to the payment whereof together with interest thereon at the rate of five per cent per annum and all costs and charges attending these presents well and truly to be made unto the said John Mylroi, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns the said Daniel Mylroi doth hereby bind and oblige himself, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns firmly to these presents.
And for the further and better security of John Mylroi his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns in the payment thereof
Further know ye that the said Daniel Mylroi has given, granted, demised and made over in security and by these presents do give, grant, demise and make over in security unto the said John Mylroi all and singular the whole of his lands and premises situate in the parish of Kirk Patrick and commonly known by the name of “The Chollaghyn” together with all ways, waters, watercourses, easements, rights and appurtenances thereto belonging the said lands and premises hereby given, granted, demised and made over in security are bounded on the north by the common land, on the south by the property of William Killey, and on the east by the property of Paul Creer and on the west by the high road leading from St John’s to Douglas to have and to hold the same to the said John Mylroi his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, in security until the said principal sum of ninety pounds sterling and the interest, costs and charges shall be fully paid and satisfied and it is hereby agreed upon by and between the said parties that the said Daniel Mylroi, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns shall not be compelled to pay off and the said John Mylroi shall not be compelled to receive the said principal sum until after the expiration of six calendar months previous notice to be given in writing by either of the said parties to the other and it is further agreed upon that in case the said interest be paid punctually every year as the same becomes due or within three months thereafter the same shall be received and payable at the four and a half per cent per annum in full for the interest aforesaid. And for the true and faithful performance hereof the said Daniel Mylroi doth hereby bind and oblige himself, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to the said John Mylroi, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns firmly by these presents. At Douglas June 30th 1877 James Lawson one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Deed (who is known to me) made oath on the Holy Evangelist that John Mylroi duly signed the same and Daniel Mylroi affixed his cross mark thereto after the same had been read over to him in his presence and in presence of John Thomas Cowin, the other subscribing witness thereto. Registry Office for Deeds 30 Jun 1877 I certify that the foregoing Deed was this day at the hour of two o’clock afternoon received by me at this Office for the purpose of being registered and recorded according to law and that the same is registered and recorded and entered in the Requisition Book 8, page 263, No. 3411. Know all men by these presents that John Mylroi of Laxey in the parish of Lonan, joiner, do hereby acknowledge to have received from Daniel Mylroi of Laxey aforesaid the full amount of principal, interest, costs and charges now due and owing under a certain Deed of Bond and Security granted and passed by the said Daniel Mylroi to the said John Mylroi for the principal sum of ninety pounds bearing date the 29 day of June 1877 and secured upon all and singular certain lands and premises situate in the parish of Patrick called “The Chollaghyn” and the said John Mylroi doth therefore hereby own and direct that the said Deed of Bond and Security

- Daniel Mylroie was the son of David Mylroie jnr & Catherine Quayle, and baptised in 1805
- Daniel married Mary Ann Teare in Patrick in 1829, and they had 8 children although only 3 daughters and 1 son were mentioned in Daniel's will
- John 1830 a builder married Sarah Ball. He died a few days after his father
- Mary Ann 1833, had a child out of wedlock, married James Lawson, a miner
- Ann, no baptismal record, 1836ish married Robert Corlett, a miner

- After Mary Ann died in 1871, Daniel remarried, to Jane Lowry March 10 1874 in Castletown
- Daniel was a shoemaker by trade but did very well in his business life. He had properties and was a money lender
- This Deed might suggest that Daniel received a legacy on the death of his wife, Mary Ann, since she came from Patrick but there is no evidence one way of the other to suggest how Daniel came to hold "The Chollaghyn"
- This arrangement is between Daniel and his son John who married in the UK and returned to Laxey: eight children - Thomas (1856), Annie (1859), John (1860), Sarah (1863), John James (1865), Rebecca (1867), Benjamin (1869) & George (1872)
