DANIEL MYLREA et al from JOHN TAUBMAN jnr
PURCHASE - 1779 (Douglas)
This indenture made the second day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy-nine between John Taubman junior esq of Castletown in the Isle of Man and Dorothy his wife of the one part and John Taubman of Castletown esq father of the said John Taubman jnr, Daniel Mylrea and Robert Heywood both of Douglas in the said Isle merchants of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the thirty-one pounds ten shillings of lawful British money to him the said John Taubman junior in hand well and truly paid by the said John Taubman, Daniel Mylrea and Robert Heywood at or before the execution of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said John Taubman jnr by and with the said consent of the said Dorothy testified by her being a party hereto has assigned, transferred and made over and by these presents doth assign, transfer and make over unto them the said John Taubman, Daniel Mylrea and Robert Heywood their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns a certain plot and parcel of ground whereon the foundation of a house was formerly laid containing thirty feet in front and ninety feet in depth formerly purchased by John Folie from Captain Edmondson and Mary his wife as appears by Deed dated the 19th day of January 1759 and lately purchased from the said John Folie by the said John Taubman jnr by Deed dated the 14th day of January 1778 lying and being in the said Isle of Man and adjoining the south side of Douglas harbor and formerly part of the Nunnery estate and all the right and title of the said John Taubman jnr and Dorothy his wife therein or thereto in every wise together with all rights, members, appurtenances, easements, liberties, ways, waters and other advantages thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold one equal third part of all and singular the plot of ground and premises the whole into three equal parts to be divided before mentioned and intended to be hereby assigned unto him the said John Taubman the father of his heir executors, administrators and assigns under and subject to one equal third part of the annual Chief Rent of one farthing and a half chargeable on the said hereby granted premises and also to one third part of all other due and duties incumbent on the said premises and to have and to hold one other equal third part of all and singular the before mentioned plot of ground and premises the whole into three equal parts to be divided unto him the said Daniel Mylrea, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns subject to one third part of the said Chief Rent and other dues and duties chargeable upon the said premises and to have and to hold the remaining equal third part of the before mentioned plot of ground and premises the whole into three equal third parts to be divided unto him the said Robert Heywood his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, in severally subject to one third part of the aforesaid Chief Rent, dues and duties charged and chargeable upon the said premises and lastly for the due observance of this Deed the said John Taubman jnr binds himself executors and administrators unto the said John Taubman snr, Daniel Mylrea and Robert Heywood their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns in the penalty of sixty three pounds British to be paid according to law. Douglas district} High Bailiff’s Office 11th March 1779 This day personally appeared John Taubman jnr esq and Dorothy Taubman his wife and acknowledged the within written Deed of Sale to be their proper act and deed. Before me William Quayle At a Baron or Sheading Court holden at Douglas for Garff Sheading the 17th May 1779 The before written Deed of Sale being acknowledged before the High Bailiff of Douglas and now openly published in Court and no object offered against the same is therefore allowed of, for and in the name of the most noble John, Duke of Atholl, Lord of the Manor of Mann and the Isles and confirmed by this Court. At an Abbey Court holden at the house of William Moore near Ballasally the 30th day of May 1778 The before written Deed of Sale having been acknowledged before the High Bailiff and now openly published in Court and no object offered against it the same is therefore allowed of and confirmed by this Court. NOTES
- Daniel Mylrea was the son of Thomas Mylrea & Rose Savage, baptised Peel 1750
- His was the Deemster/MHK/ Archdeacon/Attorney General line of Mylreas; Dollough estate
- Daniel was in business in Douglas with Robert Heywood, his brother-in-law, and John Taubman snr
- These men were both of the Deemster families of the Isle of Man
- The Nunnery had been in the possession of the Heywoods for a long time; John Taubman jnr purchased the estate from Peter John Heywood in 1776 not long before the current transactions took place
- Daniel & Robert Heywood were recorded as ship owners, in 1781, importing goods to Liverpool from Barbados (Ref: Wilks)
- Heywood, Mylrea & Co were also money lenders as mortgages in 1788 & 1790 show
- Robert Heywood (1740-1808) married Elizabeth Bacon. He was an MHK 1790-1793
- John Taubman snr (1720-1797), Esther Christian were from the "Bowling Green" Taubmans. He was an MHK 1753-1777
- Their son John Taubman jnr (1747-1822) married Dorothy Christian of Milntown (and their daughter Dorothy married Col Mark Wilks, Daniel's second cousin). He was an MHK 1777-1821
