NOTES

  1. Fildraw beg
  2. Third son of Thomas McYlrea & Jony Kinley born 1721
  3. John jnr was of executor his younger brother Charles's 1740 will and the main legatee his mother's 1741 will. As a result he, rather than his older brothers, became the title holder to Fildraw beg lands
  4. John jnr was a cooper by profession, a sign perhaps that urban life had more to offer than farming did. It is likely that John's older brother Thomas lived on Fildraw beg
  5. John jnr married to Isabel/Elizabeth Caroon 1746, Malew
  6. Children: Sarah (1747), John (1749), Kath (1751), Thomas (1754). Castletown List of Householders c1757 shows two boys and two girls in family and that the family had 1 servant
  7. John jnr was 36 when he died. In fact, three of the four sons of Thomas & Jony died young, Charles in his teens and the two Johns in their 30s. Their father also died young, aged 39
  8. This purchase was for the land that lay below the house on Deemster's Hill that John jnr had purchased in 1743.
  9. There is much about the Malew Mylreas of the 1600s and early 1700s that does not hang together so extreme caution must be exercised
