JOHN MYLREA from ROBERT CRETNEY

Know all men by these presents that Robert Cretney of Ballaoates in the parish of Braddan, farmer, and Ann Cretney als Quayle his wife, divers good causes and valuable considerations them thereunto moving but chiefly and more especially for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds to them in hand paid by John Mylrea senior of the parish of Michael, farmer, the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge

Have given, granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and forever absolutely sell unto the said John Mylrea all and singular the undivided moiety of that meadow, part of the quarterland of Ballameanaugh in the said parish of Michael held between the said Robert Cretney and John Mylrea jnr and bounded on the south east and west by the property of John Cannell and on the north by the property of Ann Corlett

To have and to hold the moiety of the said meadow bounded and described as aforesaid and all ways, waters, watercourses, easements, liberties, rights, members, privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said John Mylrea, his heirs and assigns from the day of the date hereof forever, he the said John Mylrea yielding and paying the Lord's rent and doing and performing all boons, suits and services annually incumbent on the said premises. And the said Robert Cretney and Ann Cretney do hereby covenant that they have good right, full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the said premises in manner aforesaid and that they will warrant, maintain, uphold and defend the same unto the said John Mylrea, his heirs and assigns from and against the claim, challenge or demand of all and every person or persons whomsoever

At Douglas the 29th December 1877

Matthew Bridso one of the witnesses to the execution of the foregoing deed (who is personally known to me) made oath that Robert Cretney and Ann Cretney the executing parties thereto dully signed the same in his presence and in the presence of Alfred E Rothwell, the other subscribing witness

NOTES

  2. John Mylrea's wife (Margaret Barrie als Briew) was the cousin of the wife of the vendor (Ann Cretney als Quayle) in this contract
  3. The land involved were the other half of a larger holding that had, in the past been split between Mary, the wife of John Quayle and John, the son of John Quayle jnr
  4. The half given to Mary had passed to her daughter, and she had settled the holding on her great nephew, John Mylrea, in 1875
  5. Elizabeth died in March 1877, and
  6. John Mylrea the father is now purchasing the other half from Robert Cretney who was the administrator of the effects of John QUayle jnr who died in 1862
