I Anne Jane Mylrea of Ballachrink in the parish of Lonan, widow, being of sound mind, memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament in manner following, hereby revoking and cancelling all wills heretofore made by me. First, I leave and bequeath to my two nieces Mary Ellen Callow and Annie Isabel Callow the sum of one hundred pounds each. I also leave, devise and bequeath to my nephew John Thomas Callow the sum of one hundred pounds . Next I leave, devise and bequeath to my sister Ellen Callow wife of William Callow the whole of the remainder of my personal estate of whatever nature of description as her own, absolutely free from the control of her husband. Lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint my brother-in-law William Callow of Ballachrink in the parish of Lonan, farmer, executor of this my last will and testament and have hereunto subscribed my name this the twenty-sixth day of February in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six. To the Honourable Sir William Lace Drinkwater Deemster and Judge of the said Division

The humble petition of William Callow of Ballachrink, Lonan, farmer, and Elleanor Callow his wife

Sheweth that Ann Jane Mylrea lately of the town of Douglas, widow, the sister of your petitioner Elleanor, died on the 16th day of May 1896 at Ballachrink aforesaid having duly made her last will and testament in writing dated the 26th day of February 1896 whereof she appointed your petitioner William Callow sole executor.

That it is necessary that probate of the said will should be granted to the said executor

Whereof your petitioner humbly prays a hearing hereof and that your honour may be pleased to grant probate of the said will to your petitioner William Callow.

At a Court holden at Douglas on the 15th day of June 1896 The annexed paper writing dated the 26th day of February 1896 having been proved to be the last will and testament of Anne Jane Mylrea formerly of the town of Douglas late of Ballachrink in the parish of Lonan, widow, deceased who died on the 16th day of May 1986 William Callow of Ballachrink aforesaid, farmer, a brother-in-law of the testatrix, the executor therein named is sworn well and truly to fulfill and execute the same and to administer the personal estate of the said deceased according to law.

  1. Ballakilley
  2. Ann Jane was the widow of Thomas Mylrea jnr of Ballakilley estate in Lonan. The couple married in 1875 and Thomas jnr died in 1879. There were no children
  3. She was only 31 when she was widowed, and 48 years old when she died
  4. She described herself as a domestic servant in the 1881 & 1891 census collections, living in Mt Havelock (Douglas)
  5. However, Ann Jane might also have been a successful businesswoman for she left inter alia five Bonds of Deed & Security as part of her estate, the value of which totalled about £300. She also left two shops in North Quay
  6. The MI for Thomas jnr and his wife reads: In affectionate remembrance of Thomas Mylrea of Ballakilley, Lonan, who died February 11, 1879, aged 35 years. Also Anne Jane, wife of the above, who died May 16, 1896, aged 48 years.
