This is the last will and testament of me Elizabeth Mylrea of Bay View House, Port Erin in the parish of Rushen, Isle of Man, widow at present residing at Stone Heads, Whaley Bridge in the county of Chester I hereby appoint George Lucas Trustrum of Port Erin, Isle of Man, William Rowley of Stone Heads, Whaley Bridge in the county of Chester and William Scholes of Whaley Bridge in the county of Chester to be executors of this my will. I give, devise and bequest all of my real and personal estate of which I shall be possessed or entitled at the time of my death to my executors herein named upon trust and I direct my executors as early as convenient after my death to sell and convert into money all my property and I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid without any unnecessary delay and the residue of my estate I bequeath to my brother William Rowley and his daughter Nellie Rowley and his son Noel Rowley in equal parts, share and share alike, and I revoke all previous wills made by me at any time heretofor made In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this twenty fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and five Elizabeth Mylrea

In the High Court of Justice Common Law division Testamentary jurisdiction To his Honour Stewart Stevenson Moore Deemster and a judge of the said division The Humble Petition of George Lucas Nostram, William Rowley and William Scholes sheweth

1. Elizabeth Mylrea late of Bay View House, Promenade, Port Erin widow departed this day on 26 October 1905 at Stonehead Yeardsley cum Whaley in the country of Chester having first made her last will and testament dated 25th October 1905 whereof she appointed your petitioners executors

2. Your petitioner George Lucas Nodstram has renounced probate of said will whereof your petitioners request a hearing hereof and that your honour may be pleased to make a grant of probate of the said will of the said Elizabeth Mylrea deceased to your petitioners William Rowley and William Scholes and your petitioners will ever pray etc J.D.Clucas (advocate for petitioners)

In His Majecty’s High Court of Justice Isle of Man Common Law division Testamentary jurisdiction

In the goods of Elizabeth Mylrea deceased we William Rowley of Stone Head Whaley Bridge in the county of Chester and William Scholes of Whaley Bridge aforesaid do make out and say that we believe the paper writing hereunto annexed and marked out with the letter A to be the true and original last will and testament of Elizabeth Mylrea late of Bay View House, Port Erin in the parish of Rushen, widow deceased, who died on the 25th day of October 1905 at Stonehead aforesaid that we are two of the executors named in the said will (George Lucas Srustrum the other executor having renounced) that we shall well and truly administer the personal estate of the said Elizabeth Mylrea deceased within the Isle of Man of her said will by paying her debts and the legacies contained in her said will and distributing the residue of her estate according to the law and that we shall and will return unto the Registry of the aforesaid Court a full true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said estate and render a just and true account of our administration thereof whenever required by law so to do and further that the whole of the personal estate and effects of the said Elizabeth Mylrea deceased within the Isle of Man does not amount in value to the sum of four hundred pounds sterling to the best of our knowledge information and belief William Rowley W.Scholes

NOTES

  1. Elizabeth Rowley was the second wife of James Mylrea, a widower and Rushen boarding house keeper. They married in Liverpool in 1896
  2. She was born in Whaley, Chester, in about 1855. Her father was a small farmer at Stone Heads
  3. Elizabeth was a domestic servant by the time she was 16, and later a bar maid. She was working at the Falcon's Nest Hotel in Rushen in 1891, the proprietor of which was George Srustrum, the executor who renounced his involvement in the administration of her will
  4. James had been a cooper and later master mariner, and his first wife Elizabeth Davies had died in 1894. There were no children
  5. Elizabeth Mylrea als Rowley died 1905 in England and the assets of the family went to Elizabeth's English relatives
