To His Honour Kneen Thomas esquire, His Majesty's First Deemster and a judge of the said Division

The humble petition of Flaxney Stowell junior and Edward Stowell of the town of Castletown, guardians of Thomas Mylrea a minor

Sheweth as follows:

Jane Mylrea, widow, and the sister of your petitioners departed this life at Castletown on 21st day of August 1900, intestate

It is necessary that Letters of Administration of the estate and effects of the said Jane Mylrea, deceased should be granted

The only next of kin of the deceased is the said Thomas Mylrea, a son who is a minor

Wherefore your petitioners humbly pray a hearing thereof and that your honour may be pleased to grant Letters of Administration of the estate and effects of the said Jane Mylrea deceased to Thomas Kewish or to some other fit and proper person, and that your petitioners may have such other relief as is meet and they will pray

Ordered that this petition do come on to be heard at a Court holden at Castletown on Monday the 15th April 1901 at 11.30 o'clock forenoon whereof all proper parties and persons are to have due and lawful notice

Whereas Thomas Kewish of Castletown was at a sitting of the High Court of Justice at Castletown on the 15th day of April 1901 granted Letters of Administration of the estate and effects of Jane Mylrea of Castletown, widow, deceased

And whereas the said Jane Mylrea left her surviving one only child Thomas Mylrea, a minor

And whereas the said Thomas Mylrea has attained the age of twenty-one years

And whereas the said Thomas Kewish has filed in the Registry Office of this isle a statement of his accounts in connection with the estate of the said Jane Mylrea deceased, and which statement shows a balance of six hundred and sixty six pounds ten shillings and seven pence as due to the said Thomas Mylrea

  1. Jane Mylrea als Stowell was the daughter-in-law of Thomas Mylrea, the miller of Glen Wyllin
  2. Her husband was John Thomas Mylrea, a ship owner and corn dealer in Castletown, who died at the relatively early age of 48
  3. Her son, Thomas Mylrea, was born in 1883, so only 11 years old when his father died, and 17 years old when his mother died
  4. John Thomas, by virtue of his father's 1876 will, inherited half of three rents - a small piece of Quarterland in Dr0mrewaigh, Intack #63, and a corn mill. The other half went to Thomas's widow, Mary Elizabeth, who in turn passed her share on to Thomas when she died in 1877
  5. Intack #63 was sold to Ann Cowley in July 1890
  6. John Thomas left the two remaining rents to his wife, Jane Stowell (LV 1898), and when she died in 1900, they passed to John who was still a minor (LV 1901)
  7. Thomas Mylrea, was born in 1883, so only 11 years old when his father died, and 17 years old when his mother died
  8. He married in 1904 but tragically his wife died a few months later
  9. Thomas left for the US soon afterwards where he married Bertha Thomas and became a father to two daughters. The family made its home in Oklahoma
  10. In 1908, he sold his share of the cornmill mentioned in his grandfather's will
