NOTES
- This contract is for John Thomas to purchase a block of land in Hope Street from James Clague
- Curiously two years later,John Thomas purchased another piece of land from Clague in the same street at the original price (REF: April 1981 #84) THEN on the same day, sold the original block back to James Clague at a profit of £20 (REF: Apr 1891 #88). Presumably the original purchase was either not Clague's block to sell or was mistakenly sold by Clague or the swap deal was mutually advantageous
- The major difference between the surrendered block and the newly purchased block was a reference to "premises" which was not in the original purchase - could it have been a home or a business building?
- John Thomas was born in 1845 in Michael, where his father Thomas Mylrea was the miller at Glen Wyllin
- He became a seed merchant, no doubt influenced by his father's profession, in Castletown
- He married Jane Stowell in 1880, and they had a son Thomas born 1883
- John Thomas died in 1893 at the age of 48. He must have had serious illness because he sold his business to JJ Costain months befor his death
- His widow, Jane, also died at age 48 in 1900, leaving their son Thomas, just 17 years of age
- Young Thomas married in 1904 at the age of 21, but tragically his wife Margaret Elizabeth Bell, died a few weeks later
- He left for the US soon afterwards where he married Bertha Margaret Thomas in 1907 and became a father to two daughters. The family made its home in Oklahoma City
- In 1908, Thomas sold his 1/3 share of "Harry's" corn mill that his grandfather had purchased in 1858, and which passed to his father, then his mother, then to him
