Whereas George Stephenson Cain of Circular Road in the town of Douglas, engineer, and Elizabeth Catherine Cain his wife did on the fourteenth day of December one thousand, eight hundred and ninety-five pass their Deed of Bond and Security unto Ann Jane Mylrea of Mount Havelock in the said town of Douglas for the principal sum of one hundred pounds payable with interest, costs and charges and charged upon all and singular the dwelling house and premises situate and being number 8 Bignell Street, the dwelling house, shop and premises situate and numbered 10 and the house adjoining number 8 in Bridge Road and the workshop and premises situate in the rear also the dwelling house and premises situate and numbered 80 and the dwelling house and premises situate and numbered 72 Circular Road with the cottages and premises adjoining number 80½ and 72½ in Circular Road also the shop, dwelling house and premises number 57 Circular Road occupied by John Windsor also the dwelling house and premises situate and number 69 Circular Road and the two cottages in rear numbered 8 & 9 in Back Hope Street, two dwelling houses situate and number 19 and 21 in Barrack Street and a dwelling house and premises situate and numbered 21 St George’s Walk and whereas the said ANN JANE MYLREA died on or about the sixteenth day of May one thousand nine hundred and ninety-six having first made and published her last will whereof she appointed William Callow of Ballachrink in the parish of Lonan, farmer, executor and whereas there is now due thereon the said principal sum of one hundred pounds and interest thereon at four and a half per centum per annum from the fourteenth day of June one thousand, eight hundred and ninety-seven amounting to the sum of one hundred and three pounds, nine shillings and a penny and whereas the said William Callow has agreed to assign the said Deeds of Bond and Security unto Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer both of Athol Street, Douglas aforesaid, advocates

Know all men by these presents that the said William Callow as such executor for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and three pounds, nine shillings and a penny to him in hand paid by the said Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given, granted and assigned and by these presents doth grant, transfer and assign unto the said Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer all and singular the said Deed of Bond and Security granted and passed by the said George Stephenson Cain and his said wife to the said Ann Jane Mylrea dated the fourteenth day of December one thousand, eight hundred and ninety-five together with the money thereby given in security to have and to hold the said Deed of Bond and Security and all moneys due and owing and to accrue in respect thereof together with the property therein and thereby given in security unto the said Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer, their executors, administrators and assigns in as full and ample a manner to all intents and purposes as they the said Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer might or could have held the same if the same had been granted to them instead of to the said Ann Jane Mylrea provided always and it is hereby expressly agreed upon that this assignment is granted by the said William Callow and received by the said Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer upon the express condition that he the said William Callow nor the estate of the said Ann Jane Mylrea are not under any circumstances whatsoever to be made liable or responsible to the said Charles Thomas Cheslyn Callow and John Joseph Creer or their executors, administrators or assigns for any deficiency in the value or defect in the title of the property given in security by the said Deed of Bond and Security but that the said William Callow and the estate of the said Ann Jane Mylrea are discharged and exonerated from all liability or responsibility in the premises in as full and ample a manner to all intents and purposes as if the said Deed of Bond and Security had been cancelled upon record instead of being assigned. At Douglas this 25th March 1898 Robert H. Cubbon one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Deed personally appeared and made oath that William Callow the executing party thereto duly signed and executed the same in his presence and in presence of J. D. Clucas the other subscribing witness thereto. Before me Frank J. Johnson, D. Registrar of Deeds

  1. Ballakilley
  2. Ann Jane was the widow of Thomas Mylrea jnr of Ballakilley estate in Lona The couple married in 1875 and Thomas jnr died in 1879. There were no children
  3. She was only 31 when she was widowed, and 48 years old when she died
  4. She described herself as a domestic servant in the 1881 & 1891 census collections, living in Mt Havelock
  5. However, Ann Jane might also have been a successful businesswoman for she left inter alia five Bonds of Deed & Security as part of her estate, the value of which totalled about £300. She also left two shops in North Quay
  6. The MI for Thomas jnr and his wife reads: In affectionate remembrance of Thomas Mylrea of Ballakilley, Lonan, who died February 11, 1879, aged 35 years. Also Anne Jane, wife of the above, who died May 16, 1896, aged 48 years
