THOMAS MYLREA from MATT CAIN

PURCHASE - 1811 (Douglas)

Know all men by these presents that I Matthias Cain of ithe town of Douglas with the full and free consent of my wife Margaret Cain als Quark, testfied by her being a party hereto and executing these presents for and in consideration of the full and just sum of three hundred pounds, including one hundred pounds mortgage on the premises herein after mentioned to be paid and satisfied unto me at and by and from the hands of Thomas Mylrea of the parish of KK Lonan, at or before the attestation hereof

Have therefore given, granted, bargained alienated, confirmed, passed over, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, alien, confirm, pass over and forever absolutely sell from me, my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns unto him the said Thomas Mylrea, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns a certain dwelling house and back yard thereto belonging, situate in the town of Douglas aforesaid and adjoining my own rent on the west, the public street on the north, the rent of William Gill on the east and Harrison's rent on the west with such annual Lord's rent as shall be settled thereon, he the said Matthias Cain to be at the expense of one half of the stones and mortar and half of the mason's expense for building a boundary wall in the yard between the said sold premises and the said Thomas Mylrea house adjoining, on a direct line between the said two houses, also with liberty for the said Matthias Cain, his heirs and assigns or his tenants forever to pass and repass on a a door on said boundary to the .. in said Thomas Mylrea back yard, he the said Matthias Cain to be at the expense of said door and to keep the same in repair, his heirs and assigns

To have and to hold unto him the said Thomas Mylrea, his heirs and assigns the ... aforesaid with all ways, waters, watercourses, easements, liberties, privilges and advantages to the said premises belonging or in any wise appertaining, taking possession of the premises on the twelfth day of May next ensuing the date hereof, and I the said Matthias Cain do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Thomas Mylrea that I am in full power and legal right to sell said premises and to uphold, awarrant, maintain, defend and keep the said Thomas Mylrea, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns in peaceable and quiet possession of the premises against the claim, challenge or demand of any person or all persons whomsoever, the said Matthias Cain is to give three barrels of lime on or before the first of June next snsuing on purpose for repairing the said house

For the true and faithful performance of which I the said Matthias Cain and Margaret my wife aforesaid do hereby bind and oblige ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns in and under the penalty of six hundred pounds British to be levied and paid according to law

NOTES

  1. Thomas Mylrea the tailor in Lonon is purchasing a dwelling on part of a cottage block. He was still living in Lonan when the purchase was made in 1811. His youngest son was born in Lonan in 1818 so they made the transition from Lonan to Douglas after 1818
  2. Almost 20 years later, the transaction was registered
  3. Thomas's wife Elizabeth sold the property in 1854 to James McArdle for £210 , after Thomas died in 1853
  4. Thomas's parents were Edward Mylrea snr & Dorothy Fargher als Kewley who married in 1766, Lonan
  5. Thomas Mylrea was baptised 1774, the second of Edward's three sons: Edward jnr, Thomas & William
  6. He became was a tailor
  7. He married Elizabeth Cowin 1802. Elizabeth was the youngest surviving child of 10 children of Philip Cowin & Margaret Curghey
  8. Thomas & Elizabeth had four sons: Thomas b1803, William b1805, Philip b1809, John b1818
  9. Oldest son Thomas jnr died of TB in 1845 in Liverpool. His infant daughter had died several years before. He was also a tailor
  10. Second son William lived in Liverpool and was survived by two daughters
  11. Sons Philip and John enjoyed great successes in their professional lives
  12. Grandson John Allen Mylrea, son of John born 1818, was a politician
  13. Thomas died 1853 and Elizabeth died 1857
