Know all men by these presence that we William Clark and Elenor Clark together with William Tomalty all of Portaferry within the Kingdom of Ireland, being executors of the last will and testament of John Savage of Douglas, deceased, do for and in consideration of the sum of fifty-five Pounds fifteen shillings British value to us in hand, secured to be paid before the worshipful deemsters attestation hereof at, by and from the hands of William Corlett of Douglas, we the foresaid give, grant, bargain, pass over, alienate and forever and absolutely sell, and by these presents have given, granted, bargained, passed over, alienated and forever absolutely sold unto the said William Corlett, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns all the right, interest and title that we now have and hereafter may have here and unto a certain dwelling house, brew house, to cellars, backside and garden situate, lying and being in the said town, and the houses adjoining to the rent of Mr Edward Nash towards the west, and the rent of Mr William Gell towards the east, and the garden adjoining to the rent of widow Callister, the bounds and landmarks of the premises are already set forth and well known being of the yearly Lord’s rent of six pence or thereabouts be the same more or less and the same called and known by the name of Savage’s houses and gardens

To have and to hold unto him the said William Corlett, his heir, executors, administrators and assigns the said houses, edifices, buildings, backside and garden together with our part of the pew or seat in Douglas Chapel with all ways, waters, watercourses, easements, liberties, profits and advantages to the premises belonging or in any ways pertaining without the lett stop or hindrance of us the said William Clark, Elenor Clark and William Tomalty, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns or any other person or persons by, from or under us or either of us claiming, he the said William Corlett, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns yielding and paying yearly and every year unto the right honourable Lord of this Isle and his heirs all rents, boons, dues and duties usual and payable out of the said bargained premises

And further we the said William Clark, Elenor Clark and William Tomalty do for ourselves, heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, covenant and agree to and with the said William Corlett and assigns that we have ourselves and in our names full power and lawful authority to bargain and sell the premises in manner and aforesaid, and that we shall and will from time to time and at all times hereafter awarrant and uphold him in the peaceable possession hereof according to the true intent and meaning of this present writing

And for the punctual performance of all and singular the covenants and conditions made and mentioned in the before going bill of sale we the said William Clark, Elenor Clark and William Tomalty do bind and oblige ourselves heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns in the penalty and forfeiture of two hundred pounds Sterling to be levied according to law.

The within bill of sale being acknowledged before the Deemster and now published in open Court and no objection offered against it the same is therefore allowed of and confirmed according to law.   1. Charles Killey snr was a witness to this purchase by William Corlett in 1730. Two years later, Corlett sold the premises to Charles
  2. William Corlett had purchased this and other properties from Clark & Tomalty, executors for John Savage who had inherited the properties from his father, James Savage
  3. The property was Douglas cottage allotment #14 with associated garden #15 with a combined annual rent of 2d and 4½ d respectively
  4. NOTE: Be aware that cottage allotment numbers changed over time as Douglas expanded. Rent and neighbours become key elements in confirming whether the tenants (ie Charles Killey) have changed properties or whether they have remained stable while the allotment number from one LA to the next
