To his Excellency Major General Ready, Lietuenant Governor and Chancellor of this Isle
The humble petition of Philip St Andrew Moore
Sheweth
That some years ago your excellency was pleased to appoint William Hinds esq as guardian over your petitioner and his sister Jane Price Moore who were then infants under the age of fourteen years
That your petitioner has attained the age of fourteen years and his desirous to choose his own guardians
Whereof your petitioner humbly prays a hearing of this petition and that the petitioner may be allowed to choose his own guardians and that such guardians may be sworn by his Excellency in the place and stead of the said William Hinds
And he will pray etc William Hinley for petitioner
Ordered that this petition do come on to be heard at a Chancery Court to be holden at Castle Rushen on Thursday the 6th February … whereof all proper parties to have due notice. Given this 31st day of January 1845
At a Chancery Court holden at Castle Rushen the 6th March 1845
Upon hearing this petition and consideration had thereof, it appears necessary that some proper person should be appointed guardian of the petitioner in the place and stead of William Hinds, esq, who has resigned the guardianship of the petitioner and which resignation is accepted by the Court and John Kelly of Boliagle in the parish of German having been proposed to this Court as a fit and proper person for that purpose, the said John Kelly was accordingly sworn in Court well and truly to administer the estates, real and personal, of the petitioner to his greatest benefit and advantage, and the said John Kelly is hereby appointed guardian of the petitioner with full and ample power to act and transact all matters and things in his capacity of guardian for, and in the name of his ward
And it is hereby ordered that whatever the said guardian shall lawfully or cause to be done in the premises shall be as good, binding and effectual upon and against his said ward and all persons claiming or to claim by, from or under him as if he was of full … in his own proper person had done … executed the same
And it is hereby ordered that the said guardian do return to this Court a full true and particular account of all his acts, receipts, transactions, … in the premises when there unto lawfully required

NOTES
- Philip was the son of Philip Moore & Margaret Mylrea and born 1831 in Peel
- Margaret Mylrea was the daughter of William Mylrea & Jane Plaice, born 1803 in Peel
- His father died in 1836, when Philip jnr was about 5 years of age, and heir to a considerable fortune
- When his great grandfather Sir George Moore died in 1789, he left his grandsons Philip (Philip's father) and William the Douglas properties that he (Sir George) had purchased from Charles Killey jnr in 1768 (see LV 1768)
- A Philip St Andrew Moore was indentured for 5 years to the Merchant Navy on Feb 25, 1845 which was only weeks before this Petition was heard on IOM. Was it possible that there are two Philip St Andrew Moores?
- Philip St Andrew Moore was married, and a grocer in Peel in 1851
- He married Eleanor Jane Shimmin in 1850, and had two sons Philip John (1851) & George Shimmin (1853)
- Eleanor died 1854, after which the boys lived separately, and there was no sign of Philip St Andrew again

1839 Enrolled Deeds 1839 078 John Kelly to Robt Stewart sale [Peel]dated 24 Sep 1819; Recites that Philip Moore (late of Peel, decd) + wife Jane Price Moore borrowed £350 (Brit) from Esther Gawne (spinster, Rushen) [CTD Mic 1811 39] giving as security the stables, dwelling house etc in Peel by deed dated 11 Apr 1811, Moore also borrowed £87 from John Kelly (mariner, Peel) giving as security a house adj Peel Quay + backyard etc at the time in occupation of Robert Grant (innkeeper) by deed dated 8 Nov 1814; Moore d 1815 leaving premises to son Philip Moore (guardians Wm Geneste of Douglas + John Kelly of Castletown)
